Personal Development

Including personal, social, health, economic, safety, relationships and sex education

St. Catherine’s C.E. Primary School

At St. Catherine’s C.E. Primary School, we are committed to providing a high-quality, carefully sequenced Personal Development curriculum that supports every child’s personal development, wellbeing and preparation for life in modern Britain.  Our whole-school ethos places personal development at the heart of our curriculum.

Curriculum Review and Development

In light of the updated Relationships and Sex Education statutory guidance (December 2025), to be implemented from September 2026, we are undertaking a comprehensive review of our Personal Development provision.

Throughout the 2025–2026 academic year, we will:

  • Gather pupil and staff voice to evaluate current strengths and identify areas for development

  • Provide professional development and training for staff

  • Pilot and evaluate high-quality curriculum resources

  • Engage in consultation with parents and governors

  • Review policies to ensure full statutory compliance

  • Further strengthen progression and consistency through adopting a whole-school scheme aligned with the Jigsaw approach

Our intention is to build on our existing strengths and further enhance curriculum coherence, progression and impact through a carefully structured, research-informed programme.

Ongoing Provision

During the review year, all pupils will continue to receive a full, broad and balanced PSHE curriculum that meets statutory requirements for Relationships and Health Education.

We remain committed to ensuring that our curriculum:

  • Promotes pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development

  • Develops resilience, emotional intelligence and positive mental health

  • Prepares pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life
