Physical Education (PE) Curriculum at St. Catherine’s C.E. Primary School

At St. Catherine’s, we are committed to ensuring that every child develops the skills, confidence and enthusiasm needed to succeed in PE, sport and life. Our Physical Education curriculum is carefully designed to build physical literacy while also nurturing the social and emotional skills that enable children to work cooperatively, show resilience, and play with fairness and respect.

Through a broad and balanced programme, pupils develop fundamental movement skills, tactical understanding, teamwork, and a positive attitude towards physical activity. We aim to inspire lifelong participation in sport and healthy lifestyles, ensuring that all children experience success and enjoyment.

Our Get Set 4 PE Approach

We follow the Get Set 4 PE scheme, a comprehensive and inclusive programme that supports high-quality teaching and learning in Physical Education. Get Set 4 PE is, first and foremost, a philosophy and approach which aims to transform how PE is taught in order to include, challenge and support every child.

The scheme provides clear progression of skills from Early Years through to Year 6, ensuring that learning is structured, engaging and accessible. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build confidence, develop competence and celebrate achievement at all levels. Through this approach, we ensure that every pupil is empowered to reach their full potential in PE.
