  • A week filled with chocolate, flowers, money matters, bikes and lots of fun.

    Fri 17 May 2024

Thank you all for your support with the non-uniform day today. You have contributed lots of chocolate items ready for the PTA’s Summer Fair on Friday 5th July.

Our next non-uniform day will be Friday 14th June, this time it will be for a bottle donation.

Yesterday RH walked to St Barnabas Church to plant Spring flowers as part of their Community project. If you are passing the church do look to see if you can spot the plants & flowers.

Well done to our Year 6’s this week. We hope they have all been able to relax and enjoy their celebration day today. We were thrilled that we had such favorable weather for them to enjoy the bouncy castles, games and treats marking the end of their SAT’s week.

As part of our work with HSBC, Anne has been in school this week working with our Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 pupils. Reception met Ed & Bunny, and the other year groups learnt about topics such as shopping sense, buying branded or unbranded goods, different ways to make payments, debit and contactless card payments and some classes had fun making rubbings of coins and took part in a treasure hunt.

43 of our Year 4 pupils completed level bikeability sessions this week. The instructors were really pleased with their enthusiasm and progress with this activity. We hope this was a valuable experience for those children who took part. Perhaps they could cycle to school next week!

Our school is taking part in Walk to School Week (20th – 23rd May 2024 and Monday 3rd June). The nationwide event is organised by walking charity Living Streets and designed to help pupils experience first-hand the importance of walking to school.

This year’s challenge, The Magic of Walking, encourages children to travel actively to school every day of the week. Meeting various magical beings along the way, they'll learn about the important reasons to walk and the difference it can make for individuals, communities and the planet! Each pupil will be challenged to travel sustainably (walk, wheel, scoot, cycle or Park and Stride) to school every day for one week using the wallchart and stickers to log their journeys.

Each class will work collectively to make as many active journeys to school as possible across the week. Individual activity diaries, daily stickers and end of week pupil rewards will complement this activity, reinforcing the benefits and keeping children engaged.

What do I need to do as a parent/carer? We would ask, if possible, to make arrangements so that your child/children can travel actively to school on week commencing 20th May, helping our school reduce congestion and pollution around the school gates.

In return, your child will earn special stickers and a reward trophy! Walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling all count! If you live far away from school and need to drive or take public transport, try parking the car ten minutes away and walking the rest of the journey.

Thank you for your support with this activity.

  • This week in school

    Fri 10 May 2024

Although it has been a 4 day week it has been an eventful one at St Catherine's.

We are eagerly awaiting the return of our year 4 pupils from the 2 night residential visit to Malvern. We are looking forward to hearing about their outdoor activities.

The year 4 children who remained in school have been busy on many projects, including sewing, junk modelling and cooking.

Reception held an in school parent and carer craft session on Wednesday making Spring crafts. Thank you to those of you who were able to attend this event.

RY walked up to St Barnabas Church on Thursday as part of their Community project and planted spring flowers. RH will take part in this project next week.

Reminder : Friday 17th May is a Non-uniform day in exchange for a chocolate donation for the PTA's Summer Fair.

    PTA Spring Disco

Thanks go to our PTA for organising such a successful event in April.

They raised a total of £1200.00 towards our new Science Laboratory.

Thank you to all our families for their support with this event. We are sure the children who attended all enjoyed themselves.

    Parent workshops and Assemblies

We hope our Year 3 parents and carers enjoyed working with their children for the Computing and Programming Workshop event. We know the children all enjoyed sharing their knowledge and skills with you.

What a treat it was this week for the Year 1 classes to tell us the story of Lost and Found. Well done to all of them for their brilliant participation in their assembly to parents and carers.

    Sports Events

14 of our year 6 pupils took part in the annual Tag Rugby festival hosted by West Mercia Police. We are so proud of them all for taking part with great enthusiasm throughout their matches.

    Trips

Year 4 have visted Wolverley CE Secondary School and participated in a Science Forces event led by teachers there. Thank you to them for their excellent conduct during this visit and our teachers reported back that the children have a new enthusiasm for this subject.

We hope you all have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend.

We will see you all on Tuesday 7th May for the last three weeks of this half term.

During the week commencing 6th May we will see some of our Year 4 children take part in a two night Residential Visit to Malvern and in school a Parent Craft workshop for our Reception classes. We look forward to seeing those families then.
