History Curriculum at St. Catherine’s C.E. Primary School

At St. Catherine’s, we believe that high-quality history lessons ignite a passion for understanding the past and encourage children to think and act like historians. Our history curriculum is designed to:

Curriculum Focus

  • Inspire Curiosity: Inspire children to explore historical events and figures, fostering a desire to learn more about history.
  • Investigate and Interpret: Provide opportunities for pupils to investigate and interpret the past through various historical concepts and perspectives.
  • Understand Chronology: Help children understand the sequence of historical events and how they connect across different periods.
  • Build a Historical Overview: Equip students with a comprehensive overview of Britain’s past as well as the wider world, enabling them to see historical developments in a broader context.
  • Communicate Historically: Develop the skills needed for effective historical communication, allowing children to present their findings and ideas in a clear, informed manner.

By linking learning to a range of historical concepts and encouraging active investigation, we aim to cultivate a deep understanding of history and its relevance to the present and future.
