Music

During daily worship, all children are given the opportunity to join in song as they enter, leave or as part of the assembly. Children learn a range of traditional and more modern hymns during their time at St Catherine’s and these are also sang in our local church each half term when we have our end of term service.
Additional music lessons are offered to children in KS2 for a tuition fee. School organise and accommodate these lessons within the school day.
The Charanga Musical School Scheme provides lesson plans, assessment, clear progression, and engaging and exciting whiteboard resources to support every lesson. The Scheme supports the national curriculum. In line with the curriculum for music and guidance from Ofsted research, this Scheme moves away from the previous levels and learning objective concepts to an integrated, practical, exploratory and child-led approach to musical learning. The interrelated dimensions of music weave through the units to encourage the development of musical skills as the learning progresses through listening and appraising, differing musical activities (including creating and exploring) and performing.
