Music
Music Provision at St. Catherine’s C.E. Primary School
At St. Catherine’s, music plays an integral role in our daily school life and curriculum, enriching our students' educational experience.
Daily Worship and Singing
- Daily Participation: During daily worship, all children participate in singing as they enter, leave, or during the assembly. This practice includes a variety of traditional and modern hymns.
- Termly Services: Children have the opportunity to perform these hymns at our local church during our end-of-term services each half term, enhancing their experience with live performance.
Additional Music Lessons
- KS2 Tuition: Additional music lessons are available to Key Stage 2 students for a tuition fee. These lessons are organised and accommodated within the school day, ensuring that students can pursue their musical interests without disrupting their regular schedule.
Curriculum and Scheme
- Charanga Musical School Scheme: We use the Charanga Musical School Scheme to guide our music education. This scheme provides comprehensive lesson plans, assessments, and engaging whiteboard resources, supporting the national curriculum.
- Child-Led Approach: In line with the latest curriculum guidance and Ofsted research, Charanga adopts a practical, exploratory, and child-led approach. It focuses on integrating the interrelated dimensions of music—listening and appraising, creating and exploring, and performing—to foster musical skill development.
- Progressive Learning: The scheme emphasises a progression model that moves away from previous levels and learning objectives, encouraging a more holistic and dynamic approach to musical learning.
By incorporating these elements, we aim to provide a rich and supportive musical education that encourages all students to develop their musical talents and appreciation.
